Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s determination to maintain the highest standards of officiating was yet again underscored with the conclusion of the AFC Elite Futsal Referees Seminar 2024 on Friday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Taking place from July 29 to August 2, the seminar proved to be an excellent platform for the 53 match officials in attendance to enhance their skills and update their existing knowledge.

Zari Fathi, Gelareh Nazemi, Zahra Rahimi, Ebrahim Mehrabi Afshar, Ali Hafizafi, Mohammad Ali Ehtesham and Ali Ahmadi were present in this course and were able to successfully pass the physical fitness tests.

The five-day programme comprised a balanced mix of theoretical and practical sessions which gauged the participants’ expertise in several aspects of the game, including their understanding of the Laws of the Game (LOTG), as well as their physical fitness and analytical aptitude.

The opening day of the seminar paid special attention to new entrants who were welcomed with an introductory session, which was followed by ice-breaking activities that set the tone for the next few days.

Some of the major highlights from classroom sessions from the opening day included tests on the LOTG through in-depth analysis of match incidents which laid the foundation for the practical lessons. Meanwhile, the out-of-classroom activities focused mainly on match rotation, allowing the less experienced officials to apply their theoretical knowledge in simulated match conditions.
In the subsequent days, several key sessions were held that discussed critical topics such as uniformity and possible amendments to the Laws of the Game for the 2024/25 season.

Additionally, in the practical sessions, the participants’ levels of physical fitness were scrutinised to ensure they met the necessary standards for officiating at the highest levels.

Yet another area of focus at the seminar was an evaluation of the Video Support technology that was introduced at the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Thailand 2024 earlier this year, which further reiterated the Confederation’s unwavering commitment towards continuously raising the standard of competitions in Asia.
